Partner, Sam Coffey, obtains a partial settlement in a uninsured/underinsured motorist claim UM involving a rear end motor vehicle accident on I-595 in Fort Lauderdale, Broward County, Florida for $55,000. The driver of the other vehicle was drunk at the time of the accident. There was serious damage to both vehicles and our client suffered herniated discs in his lumbar spine at L3-4 and L4-5. Partner, Sam Coffey, commented, “drunk driving is a pervasive crime that remains within our community despite a widespread, decades-long public education campaign. Drunk drivers should be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law both in civil and criminal proceedings. Our law firm goes to trial against drunk drivers to deter this conduct.” Settlement date February 28, 2013. UM insurance is an additional insurance purchased by our client to protect himself in the event that he was injured by the negligence of another in the operation of a motor vehicle. In this case the drunk driver had very limited insurance coverage. This settlement with the uninsured/underinsured motorist insurer does not effect upon our client’s right to obtain full compensation through jury trial. The settlement of the UM claim will provide our client with monies to help him from now and the time of the jury verdict.
